Faith To Let Go

“Faith to Let Go”, is yet another of the countless paintings that have been done portraying the sacred and dramatic miracle, of Jesus Christ walking on water, but few spotlight Peter and the miracle that happened in his life that day.

Fatigued and overwhelmed by the storm that night, the apostles suddenly saw a figure walking toward them on the water, to settle their fear Jesus called out, "Be not afraid it is I”, and then Peter plead "Lord if it is You, bid me come unto thee on the water”. Jesus answered “Come”. Whatever it was that Peter needed to experience, understand and prove to the Lord or himself that stormy night. He felt that walking out to meet Christ on the water would accomplish it.

That boat represented all that was familiar and safe. It symbolized all the world had to offer him. But Peter knew Jesus Christ could offer him so much more. He just had to have the "Faith to Let Go" of the world, turn toward Jesus and walk to him.

And as the story goes he did walk on the water for a little bit before he began to look about him and saw the stormy sea and began to doubt. Did he doubt in the Lord because he lost his focus on him or did he doubt in himself and wondered why he felt he should be able to do this but either way the Lord came to his rescue.

It is my prayer that we may all have the courage and faith to let go of the world, focus on our Savior and walk to him. May we have faith in him and ourselves. He knows our potential and will always help us achieve it if we allow him to.
